MFG Days Runs Throughout October
Join the Chamber and Michiana NTMA (National Tooling & Machining Association) as we partner with area businesses and educators to shine a virtual spotlight on local manufacturers and manufacturing career opportunities. The virtual format extends the reach of this annual event beyond one day – and to more students, educators, parents, and community members. MFG Days 2020 will kick off October 2, with the launch of a video series and additional resources, followed by industry panel discussions, business chats, virtual tours, and more will take place throughout the month. We are excited to create digital tools and virtual opportunities to connect students to manufacturing.
Since the first MFG Day in 2014, 70 industry and education/training partners and more than 4,000 high school students from Adams, Clay, Mishawaka, New Prairie, Penn, Riley, Career Academy, Saint Joseph, and Washington have connected through MFG Day in the South Bend Region. The initiative also provides an opportunity for parents to engage in manufacturing career conversations with their children. Your partnership illuminates a pathway for our future workforce by showing them the education and career opportunities available in our community.
MFG Days is an Opportunity to:
- Learn the truth about manufacturing and manufacturing careers
- Inspire a new generation of manufacturers
- Learn what is being made in our community
- Encourage entrepreneurship and inspire creativity
The Impact
“Workforce impacts everything in our region that makes the economy stronger, and the Chamber’s role is that interconnector. No matter what industry, manufacturing, hospitality, health care, you name it, everyone has a workforce,” says Kate Lee, executive director of workforce and education with the Chamber. “If we want to have a healthy economy that works for all people, we have to use our workforce initiatives to lift up people and get them through doors they would not have walked through before. That’s why MFG Days is so important—showing kids who they can be, letting kids know that really cool stuff is made on the west side of South Bend, and more.”
Lee continues, “I just think there are some really interesting opportunities ahead of us if we can get employers to offer the right kind of jobs to connect the right kind of young people to the community. The young people won’t just change the company, they’ll change the business, and the community.”
