Welcome to our summer/fall chamber magazine. As always, we have tried to bring together some great content that could be useful to you and those on your team at your company. Please feel free to share!
First, my sincere thanks to you for recognizing why your investment in the Chamber is so critical, maybe now more than ever. We know these have been challenging times for you and your business, as they have been for our organization. Together, we’ll navigate this current challenge, and I hope to come through stronger than ever!
I have heard from so many of you about the unique challenges you are navigating as you are trying to keep your business afloat. I have also heard so many great stories about the innovative new things you and your colleagues are doing to reinvent your business and stay relevant. Please feel free to share those stories with my team here at the Chamber. We are here working on your behalf, trying to be that resource for you, advocating for your interests, connecting you with other key businesses and leaders, and promoting the overall health of the local economy.
For months we have focused on helping you cope with COVID and connecting you with the resources you have needed; we’re now focusing more on the COVID recovery and how to best position your business and our community for future success. We had great momentum that was interrupted by the virus, we are hoping that was just a short interruption, and we will be back on the fast track soon.
It’s been great to see so many of you once again as we have started to gather again. Please know we are taking all the precautions necessary to keep you safe at those events and will continue to have somewhat of a limited schedule late into the year. A couple of Business After Hours, our annual Chamber Golf Classic Presented by Northwest Bank, and ribbon cuttings are just a few examples of some great gatherings. We have also enjoyed connecting with you virtually at our Networking at Lunch and our Member Briefings. In the next few weeks, we will see many of you at our lunch with Governor Holcomb.
Our focus this fall has moved to elections. Several critical races are on the ballot. We are paying close attention to school board and county commissioner races. Watch soon for my one-on-one interviews with those candidates. We want you to get to know each of them a little better. We have also been heavily involved in the OneMoreVoice.com effort, an initiative to increase voter registration, participation, and civic knowledge. Indiana traditionally has not scored too well in these category’s; we are hoping to help change that.
Our workforce efforts continue. We know you are seeking top talent and we want to help you find that. One of the current highlights is our Manufacturing Day, which we do each October. We have had to pivot because of COVID, and we will do it virtually this year and for the entire month of October; thus, it will be known as MFG Days in 2020. I am really impressed with how that has all come together, and look forward to sharing more with you about it.
I am pleased with the amount of economic development interests in the area. See my interview about the Indiana Enterprise Center, a key development opportunity on the county’s west side.
