SAFE STATION – PART-TIME/PRN YOUTH CARE WORKER
DEFINITION – Responsible for house management and supervision of at-risk adolescent residents during scheduled shifts.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Supervises residents and their daily activities.
- Facilitates individual and group life skills development, providing daily documentation in files.
- Screens, assesses, and documents incoming telephone calls.
- Completes intakes of appropriate residents.
- Develops, implements, and documents provided services and recreational programming.
- Contacts social service agencies as appropriate.
- Enforces rules, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains appropriate boundaries and acts appropriately in crisis situations.
- Completes all necessary case notes, statistics, and reports as required.
- Stays up to date with all training and correlated documentation expectations.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree preferred in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field. Experience desired.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Support agency goals and the operational functioning of the YSB programs as a whole; willingness to participate in workshops and other opportunities for professional growth; meet regularly with supervisor, maintain commitment to continual learning and quality performance, carry out job duties according to the time schedule established with supervisor, utilize a strengths based, Trauma Informed Care approach when working with youth, families, staff and members of the community at large.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY: Knowledge of basic sociological, psychological, and child development principles; familiar with child abuse and neglect issues and teen/young adult issues; knowledge of area social service agencies; ability to accurately assess situations and organize and implement care plans, ability to work independently and as part of a team and clearly communicate orally and in written form, ability to deal effectively in a sensitive manner to diverse populations; ability to climb two flights of stairs, lift 40 pounds, stand for 8 hours, and walk the equivalent of three city blocks.

LICENSE NEEDED: Valid Driver’s License
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Safe-Station Supervisory Staff
HOURS: Part-time/PRN (17-29 hours per week, primarily weekend evenings/overnight), flexible hours required. Must be available to work weekend evenings, overnight and holidays.
SALARY: $13.00 per hour
This position is non-exempt and qualifies under the Fair Labor Standards Act’s minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.
